WILMINGTON — Marion Von Somersett, born on March 13, 1942, in Wilmington, NC, passed away on May 27, 2023, at the age of 81 in Wilmington, NC. He was the son of the late Leon and Mae Somersett, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, Marion worked at Lockheed Aircraft Company, followed by working as an engineer at Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. He left the railroad to start work full-time at his cabinet business, Somersett Woodworking. He retired after his many careers after 65 years. Marion had many interests some of which included fishing, traveling, motorhomes, NASCAR, and motorcycles. He loved his family and was always there to support them when they needed him. You could always find him happy working on his latest project or at work.
Marion is survived by his wife of 58 years Louise Dale Somersett; his children Elizabeth Paige Medina, Alice Patz and her husband Frank Patz, and Adam Somersett; his grandchilden Lauren Patz, Thomas Patz, and William Moseley; his sister Diane Hyatt and her husband Al Hyatt; his nephews Bill Hyatt, and John Hyatt, and his sister-in-law Candace Halecki.
Marion will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for his family, and his passion for woodworking. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 9, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 16 N. 16th St., Wilmington, 28401.
