Alan Clarke Stout, 74

WILMINGTON — Alan Clarke Stout, late of Wilmington NC, passed away on May 10, 2023 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare surrounded by family sharing precious memories and being honored as a veteran.

Alan was born on November 13, 1947 in Lebanon, Indiana and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. After marrying Sharon, Alan worked at Pressure Chemical Company while attending university, eventually working his way up to the role of President. He then founded ACS Consulting and Sales and traveled the world teaching advanced technical procedures in hydrogenation. Alan retired as General Manager of Glycotech Inc. in Leland North Carolina where he was honored as Coastal Entrepreneur of the year in 2012 for his work in renewable chemical technologies.

Alan served as a reserve Medic in the U.S. Army, where he was known for his skill in venipuncture. Alan was a devoted member of Bethel Park Presbyterian in Pennsylvania and Winter Park Baptist Church in North Carolina, where he was involved in numerous service initiatives. He had a kind and selfless spirit, was a talented scientist, and was humble and gracious with a genuine interest in the lives of others. He loved camping with friends and family in Pennsylvania and hosting them at the family trout camp on Curry Run in Pennsylvania. He was a big supporter of the Pittsburgh sports teams and the Steelers in particular, even swaddling his first-born son in a terrible towel. He enjoyed taking cruise boat vacations with his dear friends known as the 76ers from Bethel Park Presbyterian Church and hosting friends and family on his fishing boat, the Fortuna in Wilmington, NC. Above all, Alan was most proud of his fifty-four years of marriage to Sharon Stout and the family they built including his children and grandchildren. Alan cherished the time spent fishing, camping, and boating with friends and family.

Alan is survived by his wife Sharon Stout; son Jason Stout and wife Alison; daughter Kristen Guthrie and husband Webster; daughter Jami Kelley and husband Justin; brother David Stout; sister Anna Matthews; and five grandchildren: Molly, Madeline, Bailey, Eli, and Londyn.
