LELAND — Barbara Ernestine Smith, 91, of Leland, NC passed away on May 5, 2023. Barbara E. Smith went to be with Lord. She was 91 born on December 16, 1931 in Charleston. SC; daughter of the late Louis Henry Tharp and Marie Ernestine Brew Tharp.
She is preceded in death other then her parents, her husband James R. Smith in 1996. Barbara was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Leland. She played the piano for many years before she was unable to. She was a loving Mother and Father when our Dad was often deployed in the U.S. Marine Corps. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived by her 3 daughters; Vickie Brown )John), Glenda O’Leary (Ed) and Melody Brown. Also her beloved fur baby Benji. Grandchildren; Tabitha Jackson, John Brown, Jr., Anthony Fontana (Bridget), Carmen Fontana (Maria), Mark Fontana (Alicia) and Jackie Fontana. Great Grandchildren Jeffrey Jackson, Alison Jackson, Madelyn Jackson, Blake Fontana, Riley Fontana, Isabella Fontana, Gianna Fontana, Mateo Fontana, Raul Fontana, Lexi Fontana, Lincoln Fontana, Lochlan Fontana, and three step grandchildren; Tanner Zuck, Zachary Brown and Amy Jackson and great great grandson; Jack Fox.
