WILMINGTON — Karen Haynes Downing, 70, of Wilmington, NC went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on March 31, 2023 after a battle with leukemia.
Karen was born on February 13, 1953 to Maurice and Annie Louise Haynes in Fort Bragg, NC.
Karen spent most of her working life as a Special Education school bus driver/teacher. She had a passion for spending time with her grand children and loved horses.
She was married to Kim Edward Downing with whom they had one child, Michelle Downing Potter.
Karen was predeceased by her husband, Kim Edward Downing, and mother and father, Maurice and Annie Louise Haynes. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Downing Potter, Michelle’s husband Walter Eugene Potter, her two grandchildren Landon Eugene Potter and Hayden Renae Potter, and her three siblings, Mark Haynes, Cindy Miller, and Keith Haynes.
Services will be held at Freedom Baptist church on April 7, 2023. They will receive family and friends starting at 1 p.m. with a memorial service directly following at 2 p.m.
