Juanita Armstrong, 92

WILMINGTON — On February 12, 2023, Juanita Sellers Armstrong passed away peacefully in Wilmington, NC. She was surrounded by love and did not suffer. Born in Honea Path, SC to the late Buren R. Sellers and Grace Branyon Sellers, Juanita graduated from Honea Path High School where she played the xylophone and piano.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Franklin “Bunk” Armstrong. She is survived by son Bill Armstrong and wife Pam Houmere in Tallahassee Florida, daughter Susan Mabry and husband Allen Mabry and her dear friend Teresa Langley. She was the loving grandmother of Will Armstrong and great-grandmother of William Armstrong and Rebekah Armstrong in Tallahassee, Fl.

Juanita was a kind, compassionate person that never met a stranger. She enjoyed traveling, and just as much as traveling, she loved planning her next trip, imagining the places she could visit and the adventures she could have. She also loved to reminisce about her many travel experiences.

Juanita played the piano most of her life, entertaining friends and family, her church’s Joy club, her caregivers, and the residents at Champions. It was common to hear piano music emanating from her home. She also was an animal lover. She always had pets and used to say, “you can’t trust a person that doesn’t love animals.” Juanita and Bunk enjoyed rooting for Clemson football and cheering the Tigers to victory, and she was an avid sports fan.

Special thanks to the Davis Healthcare staff at the Timberline and Lightkeepers facilities, the staff at Champions assisted living, the staff and owner of Always Good Company and her friends at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church.

Above all else, Juanita loved her family and friends. She was always thankful for the life she had lived and people that had made it special.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 18, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.

Donations in honor of Juanita may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the New Hanover County Humane Society.
