WILMINGTON — Patricia Ann Schember, 84, passed away after a long illness Friday evening, November 18, 2022, at the Cape Fear Lower Hospice, in Wilmington NC. A resident of Wilmington for over 30 years, Pat was raised in Lindenhurst, Long Island, NY. She raised her family in nearby Babylon, Long Island.
Pat was a 1954 graduate of Lindenhurst Senior High School. She was a cheerleader and a member of the National Honor Society. An outstanding student, she skipped two grades before graduating. After high school, Pat began what would become a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications industry. She retired from AT&T in 1989, then moved to North Carolina with her family.
In Wilmington, inspired by her father, Pat became a leader in the local Lion’s Club. Additionally, Pat was an avid dog lover, especially schnauzers, and adopted several from animal shelters through the years. They were her close companions for much of her life.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Holton “Red” Sherrill and mother Vesta Sherrill, brother Blaine Sherrill, and husband William “Bill” Schember.
Pat was a loving mother and is survived by her son, Scott Schember and his wife, Katie; stepdaughter Lisa Durler and her family (husband Dan, and their children, Karissa, Danny and Amber); and stepson William (Bill) Schember, Jr. Pat was also a beloved aunt to twin nephews, Don and Ron Sherrill, and their families.
At the request of the family, funeral services for Pat Schember will be held privately. For those that wish to honor Pat’s memory, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina or to the Cape Fear Lower Hospice.
