
WILMINGTON — Dolores “Jinx” Engeldinger (née Sheffield), 87, of Wilmington, NC passed away on November 15, 2022.
Born in Three Springs PA in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (née Powell) Sheffield.
Jinx was a graduate of Taylor Township High School. After high school Jinx started working for Bell Telephone, at both their Harrisburg PA and Redwood City CA locations. She met and marred the love of her life, Bill Engeldinger in Redwood City CA. She and Bill moved to Atlanta in the early 1960’s where they lived and raised their two daughters. Jinx returned to the workforce in the early 1970s and continued working until she retired from The Monarch Company, where she made many lifelong friends.
Jinx was a strong, independent woman who loved games of any sort. She enjoyed golf and bowling while living in Atlanta. She also enjoyed card games, especially poker and bridge. She enjoyed traveling to many tournaments with her close bridge friends after retirement. She achieved both Bronze and Silver Life Master ranks in bridge. She was he also loved doting on her grandchildren.
Dolores “Jinx” was the beloved wife of the late William H Engeldinger; loving mother of Holly Bass (Gregg), Lori Bevis, (Joseph “Rusty”); devoted grandmother of Lindsay M Bass and Nicholas W Bass; dear sister of Cynthia Houck (Freddy), Margaret “Peggy” Browning (Tim), Sam Sheffield (Dee) and the late Berniece “Jackie” Glazier-Olson, Maynard Sheffield and Beverly Funkhouser.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 4 p.m. at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington NC.
