WILMINGTON — Joan Van Horn Andrews, of Wilmington, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Center.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio, December 16, 1929 the daughter of Lewis Grant and Clara Woodruff Van Horn. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Andrews, her daughter-in-law Mary Peacock Andrews, and her brother and two sisters.
Joan was a graduate of the Ohio State University nursing program and proudly served in the US Navy before settling in Wilmington to raise her family. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years and also a member and past President of the Cape Fear Garden Club.
She is survived by her children; Richard C. Andrews, Jr, J. Scot Andrews (Teresa), and Laura Andrews Gainey (Charles), her six grandchildren; Allison Andrews Goodson (Will), Robin Andrews Mortenson (Doug), Alexis Gainey Swist (Jason), Weston Carpenter Gainey, Elizabeth Grace Andrews, and Jay Scot Andrews, Jr., and seven great grandchildren, Jim, Louise, Mack, Molly, Maggie, Cole, and Cooper.
A private service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their special thanks and appreciation for the wonderful care her sitters have provided over the past years; Lynne Scanlon, Tracie Law, Ruth Dawson, Carolyn Tew, Mary Leary, and Lynne Williams.
