Betty Singletary Murray, 81

BURGAW — A kind and giving lady, Betty Jean Singletary, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the age of 81 at her home in Burgaw.

She was born June 30, 1941 in Horry County, South Carolina to Leba and Grace Cox Singletary. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn McMillian.

Betty is survived by her husband, Milton Lee Murray; step-children, Steven Murray and his wife, Marcy, and Jennifer Templeman and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Joshua Murray, Caleb Murray, Makayla Murray, Graham Templeman, Andrew Templeman, and David Templeman; brother, John Singletary (Theresa); sister, Bonnie Spivey; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was retired after teaching many years at Brunswick Community College. Betty’s resounding Christian faith was evident in all her activities at Burgaw Baptist Church. Through the years Betty taught Sunday school, helped with WMU, and sang in the choir.

Betty was a joy to know as she was quick to smile, always willing to help others, and willingly shared her love of Jesus. Betty was a cancer survivor and was active with Relay for Life. Many will remember that Betty participated in Senior Games in Brunswick County. Above all Betty loved and was dedicated to her family. What a wonderful and full life Betty lived. She was truly loved and will be missed.

The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2022 at Burgaw Baptist Church with funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Danny Justice, The Rev. Ben Horrell, and The Rev. Allen Singletary will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
