William Carter Rabon, 84

LELAND — William Carter Rabon, age 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 26, 2022 at his home in Leland, surrounded by his loving family.

Carter was born in Brunswick County on July 10, 1938 to Frank Columbus Rabon and Cora Flowers Rabon.

Carter was a 65 year member of Elah Baptist Church in Leland, where he served in many capacities including serving as a Deacon for many years. He was very athletic from his youth into adulthood, and enjoyed all sports including baseball, basketball, football. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting and fishing and was a life long member of The Town Creek Hunting Club.  He was active in Leland Baseball most of his life as a member of the Hot Stove League and helping with American Legion Youth Baseball. He served as a Maintenance Supervisor at Ideal Cement before his retirement.

Carter is survived by his wife of 64 years, Earlyne King Rabon, they were married June 28, 1958; son and daughter-in-law Dale Rabon and Sherry Rabon; two grandchildren, Johnathan Rabon and Brittany Armstrong and her husband Bryan; little great grand-son Carter Creech Rabon; sisters, Elizabeth Mercer, Tonda Henry, Cheryl Mintz, and Gail Sullivan; special and devoted sister in-laws, Rose Cook and Vina Mae Benton, special brother in-law John Cook, and special buddy, Marc Cook; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are being planned for 5 pm Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Elah Baptist Church in Leland led by Rev. Horace Hawes, and assisted by Rev. Ken Long and his brother in-law John Cook.  Visitation will begin  4 pm at the church His burial will be at King Memorial Gardens in Leland.

Pallbearers will be Johnathan Rabon, Bryan Armstrong, Gary Rabon, Heath Watkins, Jeremy Jacobs, and Wayne Rabon. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Patten, Robert Mintz, Charlie Graham, Randy Rabon, Burwin Mercer, Don Gainey, Sandy Dew, and Morrison Watkins along with members of The Town Creek Hunting Club, Hot Stove League members.
