WILMINGTON — Janice “Jan” Marshall, 78, passed away August 13th, 2022 in Wilmington, North Carolina surrounded by her loved ones and pets.
She was born in Mayberry, West Virginia and was a daughter of the late Louis Jane Thompson and Wallace Lee Thompson.
She grew up in West Virginia and moved to Chicago with her family when she was a teenager. As a young adult, she had a homestead in Portland, Oregon, travelled to Europe working on a Norwegian container ship, dabbled in archeology in Egypt, and was a nanny in Greece. After meeting her husband, Simeon Curtis Marshall, they had one child, Chris Marshall, and together they started a freelance photography business based on Randolph Street in downtown Chicago.
In 1995 she and her family moved to Carolina Beach, NC and soon after started a florist, “Marshall Gardens” which provided countless beautiful flowers and arrangements to many people and their important events. After a 20-year career in the floral and design industry, she retired to spend time with her beloved Boston Terrier “Graci”, Tuxedo cat “Paco” and Siamese cat “Coco”, garden, and paint pictures. She was loved by her family, friends, employees and customers. She is survived by her son Chris Marshall, her sister Becky Langley, brother-in-law Paul Langley, nephews Steve and Sheldeen Langley and Josh Lybolt, and niece Maggie Lybolt.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd.
