Myron Lee Blanchard, 72

Myron Lee Blanchard, 72, died at 9:54 pm Monday, August 1 at his home in Hampstead, N.C. He was born on July 3, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Ind., as the second of four sons to Marion L. and Eudora M. (Ellis) Blanchard.

He lived in Columbia City, Ind., for five years before moving to Fort Wayne in 1955. He lived there until 1997, when he and his parents moved to Southport, Ind. In 2018 he moved with his brother Kevin to Hampstead.

Myron graduated from North Side High School in Fort Wayne, and later earned his Associate’s Degree. He primarily worked in retail stores.

Myron may have been one of the most unique individuals to walk the face of this Earth. Almost everyone who came into contact with him quickly learned of his uncanny knack for asking a strange question or joke or seeing if you knew an unusual trivia fact. Or he may have asked if you knew how to count to 10 or how to speak in languages he had learned. He loved to remember something unusual about his relatives and share that fact with them for years and years thereafter.

Games that challenged his mind were his favorites, such as chess, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, Mah Jong, various card games, etc. In fact, you would be amazed at the vast collection of more than 200 jigsaw puzzles in his closet.

He enjoyed attending summer church camps in Michigan and southern Indiana throughout his life. Myron was a member of the Community of Christ church and was ordained a deacon as a young man.

Myron suffered several health issues throughout his life but was able to mostly overcome them as best as he could within his physical limitations.

He suffered a stroke on June 1, began making improvements at a rehab center, but suffered a serious setback in late July. He passed away in hospice care August 1 at home.

Myron was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include 3 brothers, Les Blanchard of Burgdorf, Germany, Mark Blanchard (wife Susan) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kevin Blanchard (wife Gay) of Hampstead; 8 nieces and nephews, Lothar Schneider, Jan Blanchard (wife Kristin), Chris Moss (wife Shanna Charron), Karma Williams (husband Seth), Jordan Silk (husband Wes), and Megan, Mitchell and Ryan Blanchard; and 7 grandnieces and grandnephews, Tyler Charron, Stephen and Madison Meegan, Trenton and Lily Williams, and Felicitas and Oliver Blanchard; and many cousins.

No formal services are planned at this time.

Share online condolences with the family, here, in the guestbook.
