WILMINGTON — Gary Lloyd Pittman, 81, of Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. He was born in Lamar, CO on July 26, 1940, and grew up in Pueblo, CO. He was educated at Southern Colorado State College and Colorado University. He served in the US Army in Germany, Vietnam, and Turkey.
Propelled by his great energy, roving intelligence and zest for life, Gary seemed to have lived many lives. He had a number of careers, including a 20-year stint in banking, resulting in bank presidencies in Colorado Springs and Sioux Falls, SD and VP positions in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami and Tampa. Later he formed several companies and designed advertising programs for banking, medical and automotive industries across the country. He created Net House Inc. to generate internet leads for insurance and mortgage companies nationwide.
In the 1980’s Gary operated a horse farm in Central Florida and won a truck full of cups and medals riding his champion show jumper, Electric Shocker. He was a music lover and a talented pianist and singer. He was an accomplished woodworker and was always available to help friends and neighbors with their projects. Gary was a voracious reader of mysteries, a puzzle solver and master gamesman – any game from golf to dominoes to hearts. His quick wit, offbeat humor, kindness and generosity of spirit endeared him to all who knew him.
Gary was preceded by parents, Chester and Lois Debus Pittman, and son Patrick Scot Pittman.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Howard; daughters Margie Heimbach (Michael) and Kelli Morgan; grandchildren Ryan, Aidan, and Hayley Heimbach, Alex Kuhn and Shelbi, Scot, and Seth Morgan and his dog Sami who had him wrapped around her little paws.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at a date and time to be announced.
