KURE BEACH — Heaven gained a new angel last week… Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Dianna Pernell passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, May 20th following a brief but courageous bout with cancer.
Always a Davidson County girl at heart, Dianna was born in Lexington, North Carolina on August 22nd 1944 to Paul and Viola Calloway. In 1972, Dianna and her husband Ronnie moved to Kure Beach, NC to become owners and operators of the Moran Motel, where she devoted herself to running a safe, family-friendly, and clean business. Over the next 44 years, Dianna touched the lives of visitors from all across the state, the country, and the world with her kindness, her humor, and her warmth. For many, she was like a second “vacation” mom… and she always made sure everyone was well fed. Yet, despite the demands and long hours required to successfully operate a motel, Dianna always made time for her family, her children, and the friends who she cared so deeply for.
Dianna is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years Ronnie, her three children Gregory, Melinda, and David, and her six grandchildren – Allison, Trenton, Sarah, Spencer, Jason, and Fisher – who were the light of her life.
A service for Dianna will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, May 31st at the Kure Beach First Baptist Church located at 208 S. 6th Avenue in Kure Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Kure Beach First Baptist Church in her honor.
