WILMINGTON — Audrey Jones Needham, 97, of Wilmington, NC passed away on May 20th from natural causes.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, James Jones and Ada Key Jones, her husband, Elbert Needham, her sisters, Hazel Gammons, Shirley Jones, Opal Hodgin and Wilma Scott, and her brothers, Claude Jones, Lloyd Jones, Bill Jones and Frank Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Needham Mclean (Danny), her sister, Shelvia Ettinger, her brother, Bobby Jones, her grandsons, Daniel Moore (Tracy) and Andrew Moore, and her great-grandchildren, John Marley Moore (Amber) and Susannah Cricket Moore (Adam).
Born in 1924 in Surry County, NC, Audrey was one of 11 children. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Elbert, after he returned from serving in the Army during World War II. She worked for several decades in the Forsyth County public schools as a cafeteria worker. She loved to travel, shop, and socialize. She had a deeply adventurous spirit and was quick-witted even into her advanced age. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family, but she will live on forever in their memories as their beloved Granny Audrey.
Mrs. Needham will be buried in a private ceremony at Woodland Cemetery in Winston-Salem, NC, beside her husband. Audrey’s family would like to thank the staff at Azalea Health & Rehab Center for their loving care for the past eight years.
