WILMINGTON — Nancy Lee McConchie Harris, 79, died Wednesday March 30, 2022, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
She was born in Charlottesville, VA on June 5, 1942, the late daughter of John & Virginia Pleasant McConchie.
Nancy graduated from Lane High School before getting married to her beloved late husband of nearly 60 years, Gene. After getting married she was active in her social sorority, serving as president for 2 years. She followed Gene to live in Puerto Rico where he was stationed for 2 years while serving in the Army. After returning to Virginia, Nancy worked in the administrative and bookkeeping profession with notable stints at NIH, Mobil Oil and for the Strathmeade Square Community Association before she and Gene retired and moved from northern Virginia to Wilmington, NC at the end of 1995. In retirement she loved keeping busy with many activities, most notably her crafts group at church, UMW Circle, Sunday school class, a close group of neighborhood friends who frequently gather and go to lunch together, and of course spending time with her family. Nancy had many loves and passions in her life, the top of that list is her husband Gene. That list is closely followed by all of her family, friends, traveling/staying on the go, creating crafts/gifts for family and friends, eating ice cream and anything chocolate. She was a people person and her kindness toward others is most what she will be remembered for.
Nancy is survived by one daughter, Susan “Sunny” Salguero; one son, Robert J. Harris and one son-in-law, Michael Brassfield; three grandchildren, Lucas, Aiden and Ethan Salguero; one sister, Janice Street; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Harris.
A celebration of life service is to be determined and scheduled in a few weeks to be held at Wesley Memorial UMC.
In lieu of flowers, or should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to “Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class” at Wesley Memorial UMC of Wilmington, NC from which she was a member.
