Franklin Gordon King, Jr., 77

DELCO — Franklin Gordon King, Jr. passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at home with his family by his side. He was born October 17, 1944, in Lumberton, NC. He was the son of the late Franklin Gordon King and Callie Coleman King Congleton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Otis Odell King.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Zola Dianne McDaniels King. They celebrated 53 years of marriage on February 7th. He also leaves behind his daughter, Delores King Fisher (Chris) of Leland, grandson Bryson King Wright of Leland, and step-granddaughter Savannah Brook Fisher of Chadbourn. Sisters, Doris King Huffham (Bill) of Delco, and Monnie Bodiford (David) of Lumberton. And, sister-in-law Alma King of Leland, NC. And, his faithful canine companion Simba.

He was a 1964 graduate of Acme-Delco High School. He received an associate degree in Radio & TV electronics from Cape Fear Community College. He is a veteran of the United States Army (1965-1967) having served in Vietnam in the 199th Light Infantry – communications. He retired from Amerada Hess Corporation in 2004 after 30 years of services.

He was an executive board member of the Leland Hot Stove, and a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 962 Whiteville, NC.

Gordon never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone who’d listen. He was an avid classic car collector. He enjoyed nascar, baseball and spending time with his grandson Bryson, sharing their mutual love of history and the military with each other.

The family will receive friends Saturday February 12th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel in Wilmington. His funeral will be held Sunday February 13th at 2:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Rev. Richard Wade officiating. Interment will follow the funeral services at 3:30 pm at Delco Community Cemetery in Delco with Rev. Gordon Powell officiating. Music at the cemetery will be provided Bobbie Jean Nance of Evergreen.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Varnadore, James Hines, William Skipper, Sandy Dew, Matthew Williams, and Brad Raynor. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Executive Board Members of the Leland Hot Stove.
