BURGAW — Albert James Charles Maready, 73, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home surrounded with love by his family.
He was born November 9, 1948 in Germany to Ruth Marhofer Maready and the late Ruby C. Maready.
In addition to his mother, Albert is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Diana Maready; sons, Derrick Scott Maready (Christy) and Aaron Michael Maready (Amber); daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Catena (A. J.); grandchildren, Anthony Catena, Caleb Catena, Olivia Maready, Annabelle Hansen, Noelle Hansen and Mariah Barnes; great granddaughter, Iniko Murphy; sisters, Joan Brock (Ray) and Irene Whaley (Kenny); brothers, Ronnie Maready and David Maready; and many nieces and nephews.
Albert served his country honorably and proudly in the US Marine Corps for four years and in the NC National Guard for 34 years. While in the Marines he served in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. After the Marine Corps he joined the NC National Guard where he was deployed to active duty in Iraq and Bosnia. Albert played a key role in Iraq helping to move troops. He remained a loyal patriot all of his life. After Marine Corps stint, Albert served in the NC National Guard as well as working as an engineer with the NC Department of Transportation, retiring from both.
Albert was called “Pops” by many including all of his children’s friends. He was a hard and diligent worker, putting his all into any thing he undertook. Much of his leisure time was spent reading as he never stopped learning and broadening his knowledge. Most of all he loved and cared for his family and they loved him in return. He leaves a legacy of the importance of God, Family and Country.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Brad Thurston conducting the service.
Following the service the family will receive friends.
