KURE BEACH — Jane Eloise Rowlee Shaver was born in Fulton, New York on 10 October 1929. She went to be with the Lord on 14 November 2021. She died peacefully while surrounded by family at the home of her son in Kure Beach, North Carolina.
Jane was the daughter of Elon Kellogg Rowlee and Gertrude Candee Rowlee, both of whom she adored and deeply respected. Jane graduated from Fulton High School in 1947 and moved to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School. Jane married Raymond Stuart Shaver in 1950. Upon completion of Raymond’s Doctor of Chiropractic degree, the couple worked side by side to establish his family practice in Fulton, N.Y. As president of the New York State Chiropractic Auxiliary, Jane was instrumental in successfully lobbying Governor Nelson Rockefeller to establish New York State licensure for chiropractic physicians in 1963. The thankful parents of five children, Dr. and Mrs. Shaver loved and cared for each other until Raymond’s death in 2007. They provided a living testimony regarding the meaning and importance of marriage, family, responsibility, and faith.
Jane had a great appreciation for beauty in every form. She loved catching glimpses of birds, blue skies, sunsets, and the moon. She found beauty in walks along the beach and in the sweet smell of clothes she had hung on the line to dry. Jane loved gliding across the dance floor with her husband and singing with her family in the car or at the table. Family and friends were particularly blessed by the depth of Jane’s tender notes, always written in her perfect script; she spent countless hours laboring over thoughtfully-chosen words, Scripture passages, and quotes to express just the right sentiments of love, edification, and encouragement for whatever occasion prompted her correspondence. Jane is greatly missed, but we are comforted in the knowledge that she now rejoices in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to her husband, Jane was predeceased by her daughter, Joy Shaver McKelvey and by her siblings, Janice R. Fay Ludington and Clyde Rowlee. She is survived by children, Darle Shaver (Murrett) DeLorme, Pam Shaver (Gary) Lamont, Dr. R. Todd (Melissa) Shaver, and Gretchen Shaver (Kim) Murphy. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and four siblings: Elaine Knight, Judy Howard, Kevan Rowlee, and Adele Sheldon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on 11 December 2021 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at 612 S. College Road in Wilmington, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Organ Fund may be made in Jane’s memory.
