WILMINGTON — Richard Michael “Woody” Woods passed away at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on October 23, 2021. He was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. He was the son of Virginia Eaton Woods and Richard Graham Woods and was also preceded in death by his sister, Jane Woods Horan and his three infant children Cynthia Virginia, Charles Kevin and Kimberly Jane.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 58 years plus three years of dating Joyce C. Woods, daughter Kimberly J. Woods and 2 granddaughters, Ruby Grace Fowler and Virginia Woods Fowler.
Woody served 28 years in the Navy including over 20 years of submarine service, teaching at the FBM training center and as a recruiter before retiring. He then worked for 20 years at NHRMC.
Woody was full of life and energy and loved to laugh. He was a big history buff, loved woodworking and building birdhouses. He was big hearted, generous and never met a stranger.
