WILMINGTON — Ruby Swart Howard, 86, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in her home.
Ruby was a loving wife and mother who strove to provide nurture and care for her husband, boys, and extended family. Before having children, Ruby was an RN who worked at James Walker and New Hanover Memorial Hospitals. Church was important to Ruby. She was an active member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church for 60 years. For the last four years she and Julius have attended Pine Valley United Methodist Church.
Rudy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Maarten and Ruby Swart, and brother, Maarten (Lucy) Swart.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Julius; sons, Thad (Betsy), Tim (Diane), and Steve (Cissie); four grandchildren; Joshua, Kristian, Jesse, and Chris, and two sisters, Marie (Ted) Croom and Alida (Sam) Gresham. She loved talking about her grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held at 10 am until her service begins at 11 am at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S College Road on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Reverend Barry Stallings of Pine Valley United Methodist Church will be officiating the service. Due to current COVID concerns, the family asks that all persons who attend wear a mask.
