WILMINGTON — Sylvia Joyce King, 82, of Wilmington, NC, died September 23, 2021 after an extended illness.
She was born April 11, 1939 in Wilmington, the only daughter of the late Marguerite Thompson King and Van Hill King, Jr. and spend her entire life here.
Sylvia graduated from New Hanover High School. She worked as a pharmacy tech in independent pharmacies and longest at Eckerd Drugs – Market Plaza in Wilmington.
She was a real sports enthusiast and was an avid bowler. She was the first female to bowl a near perfect game (score 289) at Cardinal Lanes in the 60’s and that remained tops for years.
Sylvia is survived by only a brother, Van Hill King, III of the home. Sylvia was a life-long member of Temple Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held in the St. Francis Garden at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 S. 3rd St. at 11:00 am on Monday, September 27, 2021 with The Revs. Cheryl Brainard C. Phillip Craig, Jr., Rector officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Parish, 25 S. 3rd St., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to the charity of one’s choice.
No visitation is requested due to Covid.
