Julie V Bordo, 74

WILMINGTON — Julie V Bordo, age 74, passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on September 12, 2021 into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . She was born August 28, 1947 in Holguin, Cuba to Alfredo and Guillermina Suarez.

Julie immigrated to the United States as a Peter Pan child from Cuba in 1960. She grew up in Miami, FL, eventually moving to Willingboro, NJ before finally settling down in Wilmington, NC.

Julie graduated with a degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She was a beloved Spanish teacher at Forest Hills Elementary School for over 20 years. Upon retirement, Julie volunteered her time at Interfaith Refugee Ministry, assisting many families with their transition to the United States. Julie also dedicated her time to various community organizations, interpreting in the courts and hospitals.

Julie’s pride and joy were her family, especially her 3 children and grandchildren whom she adored. Julie was an avid book reader and a self-described “foodie.” Julie was a larger than life human and light in this world. She was a gentle person and would help anyone in need without hesitation. Those blessed to have her touch their lives and hearts will never forget her fighting spirit and compassion. Taken from us too soon, her legacy of kindness, love, compassion, and intellect will live on through those that loved her and learned from her.

She will be missed always, our loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Miguel Bordo, Silvia Bordo-Rose, and Isabel Bordo; her grandchildren, Paul Rose, Owen Rose, Felix Bordo, as well as her fur grandchildren Noah and Allie; her beloved sister, Elvira Diaz and her husband, Carlos Diaz and their children, Alejandro Diaz (Jamie), Cristina Diaz (Matt), and Stefan Diaz (Lindsey), as well as her great niece and nephew, Reina and Luke; Former husband, Carlos Bordo; as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and dear friends.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Guillermina Suarez, many Aunts and Uncles, her fur companion Cassie, and her fur grandchild Ava.

A Viewing will be held at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, from 11AM-Noon on Friday, September 17, 2021, followed by her Funeral Service at Noon. Burial will take place after the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.
