Karen Sanford Edgar, 59

WILMINGTON — Karen Sanford Edgar, Loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend

Karen Sanford Edgar, 59, of Wilmington, NC went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2021. She was born January 28,1962 in Haywood County, NC to the late Claude and Eva Nell Sanford. Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Daryl Sanford, in 2009, and her father-in-law, Kenneth Edgar Sr. in 2015.

Karen grew up in the Dutch Cove Community of Canton, NC. There she attended Pisgah High School before the family moved on to Florida where she graduated from Gulf High School in New Port Richey. Karen met Kenny, her soul mate and husband of 41 years in Carolina Beach NC. They started their wonderful married life on April 4th1981. A true renaissance woman, she had an intense thirst for knowledge that knew no bounds and conquered anything to which she set her mind. During her husband’s military career and while raising 2 little ones, she trained as a dental assistant in Fort Lewis, Washington. She worked hard and had a long career in the field. Karen, continually moving forward, attended Brunswick Community College to be a Certified Medical Assistant, graduating first in her class. Also, an avid beekeeper, she loved to work in the bee yard taking care of the honeybees and going to markets to sell her prize-winning honey was an extra added joy. Karen excelled one step further in the field, becoming a certified master beekeeper in the state of North Carolina. She worked to complete the genealogical record for her family, as well, and was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. Most recently she had added making stained glass artwork to the list of crafts she enjoyed.

Karen was a loving gentle person and would help anyone in need without hesitation. She was the light in many people’s lives. Her compassion for people was unmatched, no matter the circumstances. She held within her the capacity to love everyone, never saying an unkind word about anyone. Her devotion to her family was steadfast and unwavering. Those blessed to have her touch their lives and hearts will never forget her quirky sense of humor and infectious laugh, as it lit the room. Taken from us too soon her legacy of kindness, love, compassion, and intellect will live on through those that loved her and learned from her. She will be missed always, our loving mother and wife.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband Kenny Edgar Jr., daughter Kylie (partner Starrett Pattison), and son Kent (Marquie) all of Wilmington; two sisters, Sandy Pena (Jose) of Maggie Valley, NC, and Janey Shelley (Bill) of The Villages, FL; mother-in-law, Ann Edgar, brother-in-law, Tom Edgar (Tia), sister-in-law, Sandy Genes (Donald) all of Wilmington; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
