Gordon Wayne Ray, Jr., 58

WILMINGTON — Gordon Wayne Ray, Jr. was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina on August 03, 1963, and with his hand clasped firmly by his loving & devoted wife, Lori, whom he adoringly called “Lori Belle,” was greeted at the Pearly Gates of Heaven on August 30, 2021. Wayne’s vibrant personality, heart for those in recovery, devotion to his family, and forgiving nature were larger than life. Grounded in his faith and on a mission from God, Wayne forged his path in recovery beginning June 29, 1996, and utilized his trials through life to pave success. Graduating from UNC Wilmington with his Master’s in Social Work (MSW) in 2008, propelling forward becoming an LCSW, LCAS, CCS, he was continuously on a quest for more knowledge.  As President of Coastal Carrier Moving and Storage and Founder of Launch Pad Inc., a Recovery Community Organization (RCO), he provided job opportunities throughout the community, from the highly skilled to the proverbial underdog. His phone always in one hand and an enthusiastic smile lighting his eyes, he redefined the ordinary with his business expertise, while continually ensuring his family had his assurance, support, and undivided attention. Absolutely devoted to his wife Lori, celebrating their 21st year of marriage this September 30, he had found the yin to his yang to successfully navigate the numerous achievements and obstacles through life. He was a loving father, who took great joy in every single endeavor and accomplishment of his children. His eyes lighting up at the mention of Lauren, Dennis, Josh, and Brandon, as he pondered the correct method to display fatherly love and guidance. Always questioning, always learning, and always striving to be closer to God’s path with each of his tomorrows.

Wayne knew no stranger and his heart knew no limits, literally never hesitating to drop everything he was doing to help, from those dearest to ones he had yet to learn their name. The mere possibility of an individual being able to take one step in a positive direction was enough for him to give without thought, hesitation, or judgement. We all truly had one person in our life we could truly count on, in any type of situation, trouble, or unforeseen circumstance.  When life got tough and the odds were mounted high, Wayne showed up to imagine and cultivate the impossible. Motivating absolutely everyone to be better, do better, keep their chin up, and keep on moving forward.  Truly a leader in the community and beacon of hope to all, who continually utilized the time treasured mottos, “No Matter What!” & “Be vigilant!”
