WILMINGTON — Joseph J. Boardman, 83, died August 22, 2021 after a short illness. Joe was born December 14, 1937 in Canandaigua, NY to the late Joseph F. and Mary Kasso Boardman.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Kristen Koenig Boardman, two children, daughter Karen Strange (Michael) of Salisbury, NC and son Keith Boardman (Jessi) of Corfu, NY. Also, grandchildren Haley Strange, and Zeke, Luke and Quinn Boardman.
In addition, he is predeceased by his sister Carol Cole of Orlando and survived by his sisters Nancy Randall (Chuck) of Atlanta and Margaret Knapp of East Rochester, NY, as well as nieces and nephews Cathie Vodopivc, Craig Randall, C.J. Knapp and Magi Knapp.
Joe grew up in Western NY and received a BS and MS in teaching from SUNY Brockport. He taught nearly 4000 students in his 37-year career, which began in the Rush Henrietta (NY) School District. He spent the last 31 years of his teaching career in the Pittsford (NY) School District.
While in Pittsford he was very active in the teachers’ union, served as Math Department Chairman at Pittsford Mendon HS, coached Varsity Softball at Pittsford Sutherland HS and also served on the Board of Directors of the Pittsford Federal Credit Union for 26 years.
After retiring, Kris and Joe moved to Wilmington, NC in 1998 and became world travelers, visiting five continents and nearly 50 countries. Joe played Senior Softball and was a member of two NC state champion teams in the over 65 age group.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
