WILMINGTON — Raymond Hampton ‘Ray’ Brown, 77, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021.

Ray was born April 8, 1944, in Wilmington. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Ray enjoyed shag dancing to classic oldies and was an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time on his deck feeding squirrels, tending to his palm tree, and taking care of his beloved cat “Rusty.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Brown; stepfather, William Vaughn; and mother, Grace (Lib) Vaughn.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Amanda Brinson, and her husband, Matt; two grandchildren, Grant and Grace; brother, Billy Dean Vaughn, and his wife, Judy Vaughn; niece, Amber Vaughn; and nephew, Billy Vaughn II, and his wife, Jenny Vaughn.

The immediate family will have a private ceremony officiated by Pastor Matthew Griffin of Livingston Baptist Church.
