Salvatore ‘Sam’ Di Mauro

WILMINGTON — Salvatore “Sam” Di Mauro, 80, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at New Hanover Medical Center. Sam was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Syracuse, New York, to the late Joseph and Gaetana (Stagnitta) Di Mauro.

He was a graduate of North High School and worked at Niagara Mohawk in the gas department for over 40 years. Sam was an avid golfer for many years, an activity he enjoyed most with his wife. He also enjoyed watching old movies and reading history books about the Civil War and World War II. He enjoyed watching S.U. basketball as well as rooting for his football team, the Cleveland Browns. However, his most beloved sport was baseball. Sam was a diehard New York Yankees fan for all of his life.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; and brother, Concetto.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara; sister, Carmella VanBenthuysen of Syracuse, New York; children, Robert (Thelma) Servatius of Baldwinsville, New York, Mary (Mike) Tifft of Hampstead, Amy (Jeoffrey) Kelly of Cicero, New York, and Beth (John Jr.) Murphy of Brewerton, New York; five grandchildren, John Forbes, Michael (Meagan) Forbes, Skylar LaBeef and Katherine Murphy and Gavin Murphy.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
