Carmen Esther Manuel, 99, never let anything keep her down

SOUTHPORT — Carmen Esther Manuel, 99, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Carmen was born July 14, 1921, in the island Puerto Rico. She was the mother of eight children and wife to her late husband, Jose Manuel. She is survived by seven of her eight children, Evelyn Panoff, Lydia Vazquez, Eve Manuel, Jenny Manuel, Jose Manuel, Johnny Manuel and Robert Manuel. Georgina Manuel preceded Carmen’s death. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Carmen enjoyed relaxing under a shaded tree at the waterfront in Southport. She loved playing the slot machines at the casino. One of her favorite phrases in Spanish was “Siempre Pa-lante,” which means keep moving forward. Carmen truly lived by those words. She never let anything keep her down, even under adverse conditions.

She will truly be missed by family and friends.

Receiving of friends will be held from 2 to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A reception will be held at 3:30 p.m.
