WILMINGTON — Judith Lynne “Judy” Baker Suggs, 66, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 10, 2021. She was born July 31, 1954, in Burlington to the late Norton A. Baker and Lillie Jones Baker.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, William “Bill” Suggs; daughters, Deidre Suggs Wood (Dennis) and Katie Suggs Dickens; and granddaughter, Karsyn Rayleigh Dickens. Additionally, she is survived by one brother, Alan Baker (Sue); two sisters, Pam Bloodworth (Elmore) and Joyce Mihal; sister-in-law, Phyllis Long; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Judy worked a number of years for the Murchison, Fox and Newton law firm. While Deidre and Katie were young, she stayed home and often volunteered in their classes at school. As they got older, she returned to work. First, for Pender County Board of Elections, and later, for New Hanover County Board of Elections.
Judy had a strong love for her family. She always looked forward to any reason to have the family together for a meal. She was an excellent cook of all things, but making desserts was her specialty. One of Judy’s greatest pleasures was making cakes. She was often asked by friends and her church family to bake and decorate cakes for special occasions. She took great joy in making the wedding cakes for both of her daughters. Judy was very talented with crafts. She always had a project underway and her home was proudly decorated with her creative pieces. She loved making a new, decorative craft for every season and sharing them with friends and family. She was also skilled at sewing and embroidery. Judy took great pride in making infant clothing and blankets for friends but especially for her beloved granddaughter. Gardening was also a passion of Judy’s, as she had many beautiful flowers all over her yard.
