WILMINGTON — Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Brog, 86, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, and La Quinta, California, died Friday, May 21, 2021, at her home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Brog for nearly 62 years.
Betty was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Jackson, Michigan, to the late Weed and Margaret Kenyon. In 1952, she met the great love of her life, the late Kenneth “Ken” Brog at Gun Lake, Michigan. She was a devoted and loving wife to him until his passing in 2017.
Betty attended several different colleges with enough credits for multiple degrees, including teaching and nursing. Her family taking precedence, she gladly accepted the role of homemaker, taking care of her growing family.
She and Ken were avid golfers, and Betty was fond of gardening, especially her roses, which she was able to grow even in the California desert. Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Volpi, Victor Volpi, Terry and Jill Brog, Kim and John Helmsdoerfer and Karen and Walt Ward; grandchildren, Tory and Dave MacQueen, Shaun Brog, Ryan Brog, John and Natasha Helmsdoerfer, Kristen Helmsdoerfer, Jackie Schultz, Clayton and Sara Schultz, Chad Schultz and Jessica Schultz; great-grandson, Kenneth Helmsdoerfer and Baby H. (on her way!); brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Linda Kenyon; and many nieces, nephews and longtime friends. Betty was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Clair Brog; sister-in-law, Helen Martiny; and son-in-law, David Schultz.
