Andrew Charles ‘Andy’ Estal

WILMINGTON — Andrew Charles “Andy” Estal, 51, died Tuesday evening, April 27, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare.

Andy was born in Morristown, New Jersey, to the late John Wayne Estal, and is survived by his mother, Holly Hansen Estal of Wilmington. He was a chemical engineer and renowned food scientist.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving husband, Jeff Phillips; sister, Sally E. Volstad, and her husband, Daryll; nieces, Kyra and Kathy Volstad; in-laws, Max and Dianne Phillips; and sister-in-law, Christy Phillips. He is also survived by his chosen family of Maggie and Scott Warner, Tracey and Frank Bruno, Jeff and Kathy Britt; as well as the lights of his eyes, Mary Frances, Helen, Sam and Andrew (Snug) Warner.

Andy’s celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 15, on the grounds of the Church of the Servant, Wilmington. Face masks will be required.

Memorial contributions may be directed to The Blue Ribbon Run for Colorectal Cancer Research, P.O. Box 4611, Wilmington, NC 2840. All contributions will go directly to the UNC Lineberger Cancer Research Center and will be given in Andy’s name.
