Dottie ‘Dot’ Somersett Ludlum

ASH — Dottie ‘Dot’ Somersett Ludlum, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at her home. Dot was born May 19, 1932, in Southport to the late John R. Somersett and Katie Ward Somersett Hildreth.

Dot attended Zion Baptist Church, Ash, for many years before her failing health kept her from attending.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, retired U.S. Army Sgt. Major Raymond M. Ludlum.

Surviving are her loving daughter, Dianne L. Todd of Shallotte; sister, Lois Baccarny of Ash; two grandchildren, Amber Todd and Brandon Hewett, and his wife, Rachel; two great-grandchildren, Brennan Dosher and Avery Mae Hewett; special friend, Hinton Fulford; special nephew, Michael Baccarny; caregivers, Cathy Shaffer, Sandra Crowder and Janet Morelock; and several nieces and nephews. The family expresses a very special thank you to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Lifecare for the excellent care given to Dot.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, April 30, at Zion Baptist Church, Ash, with the Rev. Landis Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed. Pallbearers will be Taylor Baccarny, Kyle Baccarny, DeWayne McCumbee, Glenn Britt, Dewey Hardee and Lee Hardee. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Hewett, Mike Baccarny, Rick Todd and Jeff Sheetz.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.
