
SHALLOTTE — Rhonda Kay Evans Long, 64, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rhonda was born June 6, 1956, in Southport to the late William Harold and Vannie Darnella Hewett Evans. Rhonda was a graduate of the Shallotte High School. She was a founding member of Fair Haven Baptist Church. Rhonda loved fishing, gardening, tending to her chicken flock and was a exceptional cook. Rhonda will be forever remembered for her kind and gentle nature, and her beautiful smile that could warm any room she entered.
Surviving are her loving husband, Sonny Joseph Long Jr.; son, William “Lee” Hewett, and his wife, Tina Marie, of Lexington; brother, Richard Evans, and his wife, Kathie, of Shallotte; three sisters, Dee Dee E. Sellers, and her husband, George Jr., Shelly Lynn Evans of Shallotte and Cathy E. Horn, and her husband, the Rev. Anthony Horn, of Shallotte; nephews, Tanner, Brandon, Gavin and Dakota; niece, Melissa; two great-nieces, Ellie and Tirzah; great-nephew, Cayden; and special cousin, Brenda Long.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 24, at Fair Haven Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Horn officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to services at the church. The wearing of masks and social distancing will be required.
