WILMINGTON — Bonnie Rae Harrelson Lapsansky, 76, our mother, “Mama,” sister and friend, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Thursday, April 15, 2021. Bonnie was born in Robeson County to Clarence Enos Harrelson and wife, Eunice Willoughby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest brother, Clarence Bretten Harrelson; middle brother, Boyd Franklin Harrelson; granddaughter, Kaycee M. Chapman; sons-in-law, Allard Whyman Bryant Jr. and Stephen D. Salas; brother-in-law, Robert Ceil “Bobby” Gay; husband, Charles S. Lapsansky Jr.; and recently, son-in-law, Terry L. Creech.
Surviving siblings include twin sister, Betty Rose Harrelson-Gay; and baby brother, Wiley G. Harrelson, and his wife, Shirley Wigner Harrelson. She spoke of “my twin” and “my baby brother” often in the same sentence.
Surviving daughters include, Debra Rae Gainey, Teresa Dianne Gainey Creech and E. Jane (Janie) Gainey Williams; and other daughters, Genevieve Marie Lapsansky Cooper, and her husband, Brian D. Cooper, Cynthia Ann Lapsansky Salas, Desiree Ann Lapsansky Bryant and Cierra Blake Lapsansky, “all of her girls.”
Bonnie dedicated her entire life as wife, mother and homemaker, raising “all of her girls,” including granddaughter, Shay Lynn Underwood Piver. She was grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister; Aunt Bonnie to numerous nieces and nephews; and like a mother to all our girlfriends, who often called her “Mama,” and our home was their home, too.
If we could change the definition of mother, it would read, “love from Bonnie Rae Harrelson Lapsansky, raising her own, with honor raising others like her own, capable of unconditional love. See ‘all of my girls.'”
The family would like to publicly thank our dear family friend Judy Underwood for helping us take care of our mother over the past few years, and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (Hospice care), Wilmington. Angie, D.J., Jill, Rachel and staff, thank you for your kind service. Please help support this organization.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in their new location, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. Masks are required. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, at the funeral home chapel. Graveside burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, located next door at 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband of 43 years, Charles S. “Ski” Lapsansky Jr.
“Tuffy wuffy” for all of us girls, but she is where Ski is, and may they both rest in heaven together.
