Bonita Chiquita ‘Bonnie’ Clayton, 72, adored her coworkers at Creekside Marina

WILMINGTON — Bonita Chiquita “Bonnie” Clayton, 72, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington.

She was born Sept. 2, 1948, in Wilmington to the late Joseph Earl Sikes and Launa (Harrell) Sikes.

Bonnie graduated from Wallace-Rose Hill High School in 1965. She enjoyed painting, fishing and planting flowers in her garden. Bonnie did lots of traveling with her husband, Jack, and their miniature Pekingese, Belle, and they created many friendships on the road.

She was a hands-on creator with a talent for ceramics. As the office manager at Creekside Marina in Wilmington, Bonnie was considered a second mother to the crew and their families. She liked to talk and never met a stranger. Bonnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Jack Calvin Clayton; son, Christopher Earl Clayton, and his wife, Mary Elaine; daughter, Tammy Bishop, and her husband, Dwayne; brothers, John Sikes, and his wife, Peggy, and Joseph Earl Sikes, and his wife, Karen; sister, Martha Thompson, and her husband, Jim; grandchildren, Courtney Paige Montjoy, and her husband, Charles, Lauren Ashley Clayton and Jacob Christopher Clayton; step-granddaughter, Jessica Glickman, and her husband, Rob; great-grandchildren, Addison Long and Anakin Montjoy; step-great-grandchild, Liam Glickman; many nieces and nephews in the North Carolina and Georgia areas; and her miniature Pekingese, Belle.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at DaVita Cape Fear Dialysis Center for the excellent care they provided.

A public visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, Wilmington. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wilmington, with John Sikes officiating.

Memorial donations in honor of Bonnie’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
