Nancy Kise Hearne, 80, known for her gorgeous wedding cakes

Nancy Kise Hearne

WILMINGTON — Nancy Kise Hearne, 80, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021.

She was born in Ashland, Kentucky, in 1940 to the late Jack G. Kise and Eula Preston.

Mrs. Hearne was a graduate of Ashland Senior High School. She elected to continue her education at Peabody College, now part of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her first job following her college graduation was an H.R. position with Kentucky Power and Electric.

Mrs. Hearne is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph C. Hearne. They married in 1961 and relocated to North Carolina, where Joe served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. They built a wonderful life together and raised three children.

Nancy had a creative spirit and a natural ability to add a bit of beauty to everything she touched. She focused her considerable energy and talents on her crafts, flea market shopping and baking. Nancy was well known for designing and creating wedding cakes, as delicious as they were beautiful, for couples in the Cape Fear area for over 35 years. When she wasn’t focused on her crafts and cakes, she loved traveling, spending time with her dear friends, and enjoyed serving as a member of the Harbor Island Garden Club for over 45 years.

Also surviving are her children, including daughters, Ashley Miller and Heather Jackson (Brian), and son, Joseph C. Hearne ll (Stephanie); along with her grandchildren, Jack P. Miller, Mary G. Hearne, Joseph C. Hearne III, Benjamin L. Hearne, Evan T. Johnson, Dylan C. Johnson, Ava G. Johnson and Tolson T. Jackson.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 4, at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, with Senior Pastor Doug Lain of Wrightsville Beach Methodist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Harbor Island Garden Club, PO Box 402, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.

Share online condolences with the family at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory.
