Thyra Louise Mangan, 80, tennis fan who traveled to Wimbledon and the French Open

WILMINGTON — Thyra Louise Mangan, 80, formerly of Wheaton, Illinois, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington.

She was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Hancock, Michigan, to the late Alfield and Inez (Throndson) Franzen.

Thrya, an avid tennis player, enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling. Along with her husband, Joe, they traveled to see many tennis matches, including the U.S. Open, Wimbledon and the French Open. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved running her household and raising her three daughters.

In addition to her parents, Thyra was also preceded in death by her sisters, Joanne Grueskin, Esme Kepple and Nancy Liechty.

Thyra is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Joseph William Mangan; daughters, Kirsten Martenson, and her husband, Thomas, Laura Goldfine, and her husband, Howard, Linda Arts, and her husband, Peter; brother, Carl Franzen; and grandchildren, Sage, Tyger, Charles, Eloise, Patrick and Grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Thyra’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
