WILMINGTON — Billy Earl “Bill” Miller, 84, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

Bill was born July 12, 1936, in Robeson County, a son of the late Anderson Brooks Miller and Donnie Mae (Edwards) Miller. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Dorothy Blackburn Miller; daughter, Jerri Miller of Castle Hayne; sons, Gary Miller of Wilmington and Steve Grady, and his wife, Marla, of Wilmington; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era and then served several years in active reserves. He founded a local family subcontracting business that his sons still carry on today. He was a longstanding member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and on many church committees, as well as volunteered in many other capacities to serve for his Lord. He enjoyed NASCAR, baseball games, antique car shows and fishing with his friends. Following his retirement, he enjoyed many travels with his wife and spending time with his family. Bill’s laughter, beautiful smile and words of wisdom and encouragement will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Lewis officiating.
