
WILMINGTON — John Lloyd Walters, 58, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born Aug. 27, 1962, in Queens, New York, before moving to Webster, New York, as a child. He attended and graduated SUNY Fredonia before moving to the New York City area.
John had a lifelong passion for musical theater and was a talented tenor who performed in many productions in Rochester, New York City, and later in Wilmington, where resided for the last ten-plus years. John also co-wrote, produced and directed multiple musical comedies. He had an extensive collection of Broadway and musical theater memorabilia including scripts, promotional items and recordings. John was a historian of films and theater productions.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Joseph Walters.
John is survived by his mother, Catherine Walters; brothers, Paul and Stephen (Jenny); nieces and nephews, Marisa, Ethan, Carter and Molly Fiona; as well as many friends and relatives.
A beloved son, brother, loving uncle and loyal friend, John’s loss is felt by many.
A private service will be held by family at a later time.
In John’s memory, donations may be made in his name to the historic Thalian Hall theater, Wilmington.
