Douglas Elton ‘Doug’ Keen

WILMINGTON — Douglas Elton “Doug” Keen, 79, peacefully passed away into the arms of the Lord Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1941, in Wilson, the son of Elton and Eula Keen. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Keen; and sisters, Joyce Kennedy and Carolyn Mize.

Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; and two sons, Kevin Keen, along with his wife, Genia, and Keith Keen. In addition, he was very proud to be “Grandpa” to his two grandsons, Slade and Layton. Along with all of these were several nieces, nephews and more friends than any man could be fortunate enough to have.

Doug graduated from Rock Ridge High School before serving his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He retired after long, dedicated employment to both North Carolina Equipment Company and R.W. Moore Equipment Company.

Doug enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball and left an indelible impression on his players. He was a faithful member and served as deacon at both College Acres Baptist Church and Anchor Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

The family will hold a private service Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Nichols officiating.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of our husband/father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Anchor Baptist Church in honor of Doug.

Share online condolences with the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
