OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Miriam “Mazie” Williams Griffith, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021.
Mazie was born June 18, 1930, in Acme, the daughter of the late Thomas Holmes Williams and Maggie Hall Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew Harris Griffith Jr.; brother, Thomas Williams; and sisters, Elizabeth (Birdie) Burns, Alice Alford, Rachel (Bunk) Edwards Medline and Barbara (Bobbie) McQuay.
A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her two children, daughter, Miriam Katrine Griffith of Ocean Isle Beach, and son, Dean Craig Griffith, and his wife, Patricia (Jamie) Griffith, of Wilmington; and grandchildren, David Allen Griffith of Greenville and Dean Craig Griffith Jr. of Wilmington. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Skipper Jackson of Whiteville and Lillian (Pink) Buie of Red Springs. She was blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews as well.
Mazie will be remembered most for the love she had for her family. Her grandsons were the joy of her life and called her “Grandma Beach.” She spent many days fishing with her boys and teaching them many precious life lessons. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, especially the daily newspaper; and watching her favorite television show, Days of Our Lives.
Mazie had a contagious smile and always seemed to look at the brighter side of life. She made everyone happy that was around her. She loved the simple things in life like cooking and spending time with her family. Her wonderful laugh will be truly be missed.
A private graveside service will be held at the National Cemetery in Wilmington with the Rev. Bryan Blackwell officiating.
