John Albert ‘Johnny’ Strickland, 75, known for his unmatched ability to repair anything

WILMINGTON — John Albert “Johnny” Strickland, 75, was born Nov. 22, 1945, to George Strickland and Pauline Strickland in Wilmington. On Jan. 19, 2021, Johnny joined his mother and father to be with the Lord in heaven.

Johnny was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Faye Strickland; son, Dale Strickland; stepchildren, Sharon Schiller (Stan), Reginale Evenson (Debra), Cathy Evenson-Nifong (Dale), Patty Mincey and Michael Evenson (Lisa); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who he loved and cared for dearly.

Johnny served in the U.S. Army, he logged over 3 million miles for many reputable over-the-road trucking companies. Johnny was a longtime fixture of SR&R Environmental Inc. and the Shipyard, with an unmatched ability to fabricate or repair anything under the sun. Johnny instructed, informed and inspired a generation of people in the ways of mechanical systems and the world at large.

Johnny was one of a kind that was willing to help anyone at the drop of the hat. He would give you the shirt off his back or drop whatever he was doing to help anyone in need, especially his family. He will forever be missed!

The family will hold visitation from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Paul Waters of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church officiating.
