Glenn Stephen Hawkins, 69, cherished for his cheerful demeanor

SHALLOTTE — Glenn Stephen Hawkins, 69, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 29, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Glenn was born July 29, 1951, to the late Byerly and Doris Hawkins in South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ron and Randal Hawkins. Glenn was the husband of Patty Hawkins. They were married Jan. 4, 1976, three months after they began dating. He won her over with his sweet poems and charm. Their song was My Woman, My Woman, My Wife by Marty Robbins. They were married for 44 years and 10 months.

Glenn served in the U.S. Army for three years. Some of Glenn’s signature sayings were “Merry Christmas” and “shoot a rabbit.” He was always joking and could make anyone, even strangers, smile. Glenn was a diehard Wake Forest and Baltimore Orioles fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fur-babies.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Hawkins; only son, Christopher Glenn Hawkins, and his wife, Heather, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Summer Hawkins, Autumn Matthews, Chance Hawkins and Raegan Hawkins; and fur-babies, Peaches and Biscuit.

The family will receive visitors at Chris’s home at 17 Silva Terra Drive, Wilmington. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, at Chris’s home.
