Rigoberto Castellanos, 26, found great joy in helping others

Rigoberto Castellanos

TEACHEY — Rigoberto Castellanos, 26, left this earthly life much too soon on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, leaving many with broken hearts.

He was born Feb. 8, 1994, in Kenansville to Rigoberto Aguilar Castellanos and Edia Consuelo Calderon of Teachey. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wendy Lopez in December 2016.

He attended James Sprunt Community College and UNC at Wilmington, where he received a master’s degree. Rigoberto was a member of Poston Baptist Church.

Suriving to cherish Rigoberto’s memory, in addition to his parents, are his brother, Jason Castellanos of Teachey; sister, Lahurdes Castellanos of Roseboro; brother-in-law, Casiano Lopez of Willard; nephews, Brandon Lopez and Ricky Lopez; nieces, Samantha Lopez and Ashley Castellanos; and special extended families, the Duff family, Smith family, Williams family, LaRue family and Murray family, along with many more families and friends who loved Rigoberto dearly.

Rigoberto was a wonderful son and caring brother, uncle and friend. He found great joy in the simplest things, but his greatest joy was his family. Rigoberto was a special young man with a gift of helping others. He had a heart of gold and always put others before himself.

Rigoberto enjoyed helping people. He was a God-given blessing during and after the flood that this area experienced a few years ago. Not only did he work hard to help others during the flood, but his work continued on until his terrible accident on Sunday. Rigoberto loved people and was loved in return. He acquired numerous friends and extended families in Wallace, Teachey, Rose Hill and others parts of North Carolina.

He was never self centered; everything was always about what he could do for others. Rigoberto will surely missed, but his love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Those who knew Rigoberto knew they were truly blessed.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Poston Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at the church with Pastor Chris Jarman and Pastor Lee officiating. Burial will be held at Duplin Memorial Gardens, Teachey, immediately following the funeral service.

Share online condolences with the family at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home.
