LELAND — James “Jim” Meyer, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, July 24, 2020, at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was a member of the New York City Police Department, where he served 32 years in the Transit Police Headquarters Division. After retiring from the City of New York, he worked over 10 years at St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, New York. He loved New York and lived in Stewart Manor for 40 years before he officially retired in Leland in 2008.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Meyer; they would be celebrating 60 years of marriage this fall. Jim is also survived by his four children and seven grandchildren, who he loved very much. He was cherished for his quick wit, sense of humor and fierce love of family.
A memorial and funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, at Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary, Wilmington. Masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary School, 412 Ann St., Wilmington, or Lower Cape Fear Life Care, Wilmington.
