
WILMINGTON — Doris Harbaugh Newcomb, 98, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Bradley Creek Health Center, Wilmington.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Washington, D.C., to the late Charles David Harbaugh and Melba Jones Harbaugh.
Doris attended Washington School for Secretaries for two years. She worked for the government from 1941 to June 1950. Doris, a full-time mother and homemaker, was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife and mother. In her graduation card, her grandmother wrote, “Doris always let the God of Love guide, guard, direct and keep her.” Doris was an avid bridge player, charter member at Harbor United Methodist Church and member of the Red Hat Society.
Doris is survived by her good friend and caregiver, Candy Malaney; nieces, Linda Pomeranz of Maryland and Dana Morrison of Arizona; and family friends, Luke Swindler and Joe Colavita.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas E. Newcomb Sr.; sons, Ronald Newcomb and Douglas Newcomb Jr.; and sister, Evely Beasley.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, with Pastor Russ Nanney officiating.
