Mary Ann Ostrander Barton, 92, matriarch who treasured her family

CALABASH — Mary Ann Ostrander Barton, 92, passed on to the Lord, Sunday, July 5, 2020. She was born July 26, 1927, in Newburgh, New York, the daughter of Frank George Ostrander and Anna Marie Lang.

She was preceded in death by Frank G. Ostrander Jr. (wife, Myrtle Shaw Ostrander) and Jean E. Ostrander.

Born and raised in Newburgh, a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy class of 1945, she lived through the Great Depression and World War II before meeting and marrying John F. Barton. In later years, she moved to Sunset Beach with her husband of 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Barton, March 19, 1987. She worked in the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce for eight years and 10 years at the Brunswick Community College Small Business Center, retiring in 2002. She was faithful member of St. Brendan’s Church in North Carolina.

She is survived by her children, including daughter, Kathleen A. Dino of North Carolina, widowed by Charles V. Dino, formally of Middletown, New York, son, David J. Barton of North Carolina (wife, Linda Kurz) and son, John F. Barton of Colorado (wife Mary E. Chesterman).

Mary is survived by 10 grandchildren, Charlie, Matthew, Alysha, Megan, Amanda, Summer, Kristin, Katherine, Sean and Jacob; and eight great-grandchildren, Alec, Katelyn, Jake, Ava, Jerry, Grace, Rosie and June.

Mary will be remembered for bringing joy to all those around her and for being a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. Her most valued treasure was her family, and they always came first in her life. She will be missed by all who knew her.
