John Carroll Rood Jr., 86, Marine Corps veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam wars

WILMINGTON — Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. John Carroll Rood Jr., 86, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at his home. He was born June 25, 1933, in Easton, Maryland, the son of John Carroll Rood Sr. and Catherine Covey Rood.

John served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring after 35 years as an E-9 sergeant major.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Landing Road, Jacksonville, North Carolina. In recognition of John’s honorable and faithful service to his country the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard will present a rendering of full military honors.
