Wayne B. Bassler, 69, passed away peacefully on Christmas day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, from a complication related to his recent illness.
Wayne was born with a comedic wit that he bestowed upon everyone he encountered, including friends, family, medical professionals and strangers alike.
His father recalled a story of him often. At the young age of two, Wayne locked him out of his car in a pouring rain storm laughing as he stood with his arms stretched across the front seat while his dad darted back and forth from the dry cleaners pleading with him to unlock the doors.
He was born a jokester, a comic and a very talented craftsman who could design, build or fix just about anything.
Wayne filled his life with friends, pals and buddies who enjoyed his good-natured demeanor and friendship.
Golf became his passion in life, along with playing lotto, mowing his lawn, keeping his home impeccably up-to-date with ongoing projects that he was so proud to show-off to family and friends.
Wayne will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and beloved brother but most of all that of proud “Poppy” to Rain, his only grandchild, who he loved and adored and who brought him so much joy and pleasure these past two years.
His legacy will live on through his wife of 39 years, Patty; daughter, Katie; and granddaughter, Rain. He is further survived by his sister, Elizabeth Fandel; in-law, Thomas Fandel; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Peggy; and two brothers, Chuck and Ralph.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A celebration of Wayne’s life will follow at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wilmington North Carolina Chapter, 2202 Wrightsville Ave., Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
